An Appeal Court sitting in Lagos State on Tuesday dismissed the petition filed by Tonye-Cole of the All Progressives Congress, APC, against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Tonye-Cole wanted the Appeal Court to direct the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to declare him the winner of the March governorship election.
He had told the court that Fubara was still signing documents as Accountant-General of the State even after his nomination as the governorship candidate of the PDP.
He also alleged irregularities in the election, among other issues.
The Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal had in October dismissed the petition, saying that the APC that sponsored Tonye-Cole had withdrawn the petition against Fubara’s victory.
Tonye-Cole, who was not satisfied with the Tribunal’s judgment, approached the appellate court.
